Theme of the 2026 edition: "Third places" In 1989, urban sociologist Ray Oldenburg coined the concept of third place (Third Place) in his work The Great Good Place. It refers to those informal, open and egalitarian meeting spaces that are neither the home nor the workplace. They are collective spaces where relationships, conversations and experiences occur that make urban life a dynamic, inspiring and enriching environment.
